The Defence Housing Authority, Lahore is a housing authority located in north Lahore, Pakistan. It was originally built for army officers but is now a popular destination for potential residents and businessmen.

It is one of the most developed and high-end living areas in the country. Since the late 1990's this once army controlled area has become populated with local celebrities, top military official, politicians, and many foreigners of Pakistani descent. Defence Housing Society is also the home of LUMS (Lahore University of Management Sciences), a prestigious institution of higher learning. Moreover this high-end community also hosts many western amenities including a number of McDonalds, a Subway, Dunkin Donut's, and KFC which has served as a convenience for many foreign visitors.

Often deemed "the new rich" Defence Housing Authority is a community notorious for its upscale shops, corporate offices, vibrant social life, and literate elite. Residential homes in the area start at $300,000 U.S. Dollars and go up to $3,000,000 us dollars and private school tuition rates have increased in recent years as well. The area is maintained by private developers and park upkeep has become the sole responsibility of the DHA entity.

Furthermore the area has also undergone extensive gentrification, driving in a more wealthy base.

Since the past five years developers have claimed extraterritorial jursidication, which has increased new development in the area.

One of the best schools of Lahore is also located there named as Lahore Grammar School. Defence holds two big markets known as Y-block market and H-block market which hold from all kinds of western to continental food shops to hospital and fitness clinics to great gift shops like Illusions and Pot Purri.

 Food

The Defence Housing Authority (commonly known as D.H.A. or Defence)contains many options for eating. Spread throughout the area, there is a variety of foods from American to Chinese to Desi. One of the most prominent restaurants in D.H.A. is Shezan, a bakery with various locations all over Lahore. Coming up close to Shezan is Gourmet, another wide-spread bakery. Some other big names in this town are Bundu Khan, Salt n' Pepper, YUMMY'S 36, and american-based Mcdonald's and KFC.

Education

Defence Housing Authority is home to some great educational institutes. One of which is L.U.M.S. university, or Lahore University of Management Sciences. Other schools in the D.H.A. area include Ibn Sina (named after the philosopher) Beaconhouse. The way of teaching and the system of schools also vary in D.H.A. Most students age 4/5 and up sit in their classrooms while the teachers move from class to class , at least until college.
